December 5th, 2007 Chapter Meeting
Innovation and R&D Metrics: Driving Business Growth
Presented by Robert J. Frost of Zimmer Orthopedics

Most of us know about using metrics to measure on-going operations, but Mr. Frost suggests that organizations should also have metrics to measure innovation.  The life-cycle of each product or service will die out over time unless innovation allows them to "jump the curve".
Business goals and strategies all require metrics that enable the organization to determine whether their efforts are being successful or not.  Mr. Frost's presentation includes a checklist of characteristics for successful metrics, and a Metrics Maturity Model.
The presentation reinforces the principle that growth, continuous improvement, innovation, and corrective action all involve change.  Projects are the financial investments charged with managing that change, and Project Managers have a significant impact on the success of these projects, and therefore on the success and growth of the company.
Robert Frost (Rob) is the Manager of Project Office and Portfolio Management for Zimmer Orthopedics in Warsaw, Indiana, where he manages the new product development and new technology development process.  He has over 18 years of project management experience within product development.
