  • VP Professional Development

October Meeting
Defining and Building Project Leaders
Presented by Timothy Kroecker, Ph.D., of Cambria Consulting.

Dr. Kroecker's presentation is entitled, "From Managing Projects to Leading Programs: Defining and Building Program Leaders".  His presentation asserts that most projects and programs fail due to a lack of communications and a lack of interpersonal skills, rather than a lack of technical skills.  Further, he states that effective management can only be grown from within the company, usually coming up through the Project Management ranks.

Don't miss this fascinating-sounding meeting! RSVP now!

The program will be at Hall's Guest House on Washington Center Road in Fort Wayne.  Networking begins at 5:30, dinner is served at 6:00, and the presentation begins at 7:00.

Member Profile
Dave Winters, PMP

My name is Dave Winters.  I joined the Board of Directors last year in the role of VP of Project Management Professional LogoAdvertising, which is a relatively new position for the Chapter.  I handle advertising, marketing, and publicity for the Chapter's meetings and professional development sessions.  I enjoy working with the great team of people that is the Board.
I became a member of the Northeast Indiana Chapter of PMI in 2001, and earned my PMP Certification in 2002.
I have worked in project management applied to information technology for over 35 years.  I have worked the past 18 years at Lincoln National - the first 9 years as a Lincoln employee, and the rest of the time with IBM.  I achieved IBM's Sr. Certified Project Manager designation four years ago.
In my role as a Release Program Manager, I utilize all areas of the PMBOK in the execution of our projects: from project Initiation through Closing.  I also serve as the Lead person for process and procedure improvements for the Lincoln account.
I have a B.S. from Indiana University, and an A.A.S. from Purdue University.  I've been married for 37 years, and have 3 children and 3 grandchildren who all live locally so we can spoil them properly.  When I'm not working, I enjoy astronomy and singing in the church choir.
For the Record
September 2007 Meeting

A total of 50 people attended our first meeting after the summer break, which was a chapter attendance record!  Attendees included six guests, one of whom was a member of the Central Indiana Chapter.  Janice Eplett, of IBM, won the door prize of a "jump drive" with the Chapter's logo on it.
Our speaker was Greg McCormick, PMP, whose presentation was entitled "Risk Management for Business and Project Managers".  If you would like a copy of Greg's presentation, send an email to CedarConsulting@earthlink.net.

Greg talked about risks and business risk management in the context of business continuity planning and business project planning.  After a brief review of definitions for risk, business risk ("good things" as well as "bad things"), and business risk management.

Greg identified five drivers for risk business management: internal decisions, customer expectations, regulatory compliance, legal case law, and "other directives" (such as BOD, legal, or insurance directives).  He suggested that the optimum management of business risks was to provide single accountability for risks, such as a Chief Risk Officer (CRO), with a Risk Management Office (RMO) doing the day-to-day work.  He then presented information on a Risk Management Maturity Model (RMMM).
