President's Column |
As Kathi Heyes, PMP, FLMI, ACS,
begins her tenure as PMI-NEIC's President, our newsletter begins a new column, devoted to giving the President a regular column to share information, perspectives, and opinions. If you have questions, comments or suggestions for Kathi, send her an email.
Hello! I thought I would take my first entry for this column to introduce myself. While I have been a member of PMI for several years, and have been on the Board for the last few years, you might not know too much about me. I spent my first 15 years in the work force as a developer, starting with RPG, then moving on to COBOL, and finally to C in the UNIX world.
I have been at Lincoln Financial Group for almost 20 years. Before that, I worked at North American Van Lines in Fort Wayne, and at Dotco-Cooper Air Tools in Hicksville, Ohio. I started leading projects ten years ago when I was also the developer, and over time I have moved farther and farther away from the code. "What a long, strange trip it's been!"
I plan to spend some time developing my plans for what I hope to accomplish in my role as President. Stay tuned for next month's column!

Board Member Profile
Greg McCormick, PMP |
I serve on the NEIC Board as the Director of Newsletters. In that role, I develop the articles that make up each newletter, and the "blurbs" and recaps of Chapter events such as the monthly meetings and Professional Development sessions.
I have been a member of PMI and the NEIC Chapter since early 2005, and I achieved my PMP certification later that same year. This is my second year on the Board, having served as the newsletter "fodder finder" last year as well.
Like many Chapter members, I started my working life in the computer field. Over the years, I worked on many project teams, and eventually became an IT Department Manager. From there, I became the IT Projects Manager for Reynolds Metals Company (as in Reynolds aluminum foil) in the Global Automotive Products Division. That position allowed me to work on international projects such as software selection and implementation, ISO/QS-9000 Registration, Disaster Recovery, and Y2K. I have also worked on projects dealing with software implementation, Sarbanes-Oxley compliance, and Business Continuity / Disaster Recovery Planning.
In 2005, I started Cedar Canyon Consulting, LLC, in order to provide project planning assistance, and project management training and services. I am currently working with Specialized Transportation Inc. (STI), and have just finished assisting with the implementation and testing of a comprehensive suite of accounting software.
In addition to improving my prospects for work, my PMP certification also opened the door for me to get into the academic world, and I now teach part-time at Indiana Tech here in Fort Wayne. I teach Project Management and Disaster Recovery at the undergraduate level, and will be teaching one of the segments of the Master's Certificate in Project Management that begins in February.
I enjoy speaking at meetings and workshops. Most recently, I presented at a national PMI Professional Development Summit in New Orleans.
My wife Dianne and I have been married for 27 years now, and daughter Anne gave us our first grandchild eight months ago. So in addition to hitting a golf ball, watching my wife's competitive tennis events, and taking an occasional vacation, I can now also enjoy spoiling a grandson.
If you have ideas for a newsletter item you'd like to see, please let me know.

Call For Papers |
|
Dan Zilai, PMP and Director of Professional Develpment Sessions, announces that the chapter will be holding two half-day development sessions this year at a local Fort Wayne venue. The first is tentatively scheduled for Saturday, April 19th, and the second is planned for October.
Each session would earn attendees 4 PDUs. The registration fee for each event will be approximately $30.
This is a Call for Papers! These PDU sessions provide opportunities for professional exposure and involvement, while sharing your expertise and receiving PDUs. The Chapter is now asking its members to suggest or submit topics of interest for the April event. To submit an idea or proposal, or to get more information, contact Dan Zilai. |
