February's Chapter Meeting
IPFW Vision & Homeland Security
presented by Michael Wartell, Ph.D., Chancellor of IPFW |
|
In his presentation, Chancellor Wartell gives his perspective on our changing economy, and offers insight into how Indiana University / Purdue University in Fort Wayne (IPFW) is preparing people that we, as project managers, will be working with after they graduate. Dr. Wartell is also an epert on homeland security, and he will be discussing this topic as well.
The meeting will be Wednesday, February 27th at Hall's Guest House on Washington Center Road in Fort Wayne. Networking begins at 5:30, dinner is served at 6:00, and the presentation begins at 7:00.
RSVP now to hear a man who has been involved with a number of civilian and government projects speak to our Chapter. |

President's Column
by Kathi Heyes |
|
Hello again! I'd like to share with you the three things that I would like to focus on in my first year as the President of the PMI NEIC Chapter:
1) The David Arthur Maynard Scholarship Program
This program was new in 2007. This year I would like to solidify the presence of this offering in the various/appropriate educational venues, as well as the process for receiving and reviewing applications, and the process for awarding the scholarship itself.
2) Professional Development Days offered by NEIC
This is also a fairly new program for NEIC, having offered a few over the last year or so. In years past our Program Director was responsible for both the monthly programs as well as any Professional Development Days planned. This year we can now 'spread the work' due to the creation of an additional chair position that will work with the Program Director but will focus solely on the PDD Planning. I would like to see the chapter consistently offer 2 Quality PDD's a year. Our new chair person is excited and already off to a great start!
3) Membership Input
Finally, I would like to put some thought into how to best glean the needs and wants of the chapter as a whole, be it for program ideas and topics, new programs to try at the chapter level, or whatever. After all, the BOD is here to serve the membership - please tell us what is it you would like to see!
As you can see, no big changes yet, just solidification of the 'good stuff' that we have already underway!
And one final thing - feel free to contact me at Kathi.Heyes@lfg.com with any thoughts, ideas, complaints, or whatever. I am here to serve you! |

Board Member Profile
Shirley Miller, PMP,
VP of Communications |
|
My name is Shirley Miller, and I joined the Chapter's Board of Directors this year in the role of VP of Communications. The primary responsibilities of my position are to manage all chapter communications, which includes publishing the monthly newsletter, and working with the web master to ensure timeliness and accuracy of web site information.
I became a member of the Northeast Indiana Chapter of PMI in 2003, and I earned my PMP Certification in September 2005.
As far as education, I graduated from Ball State University with a BS degree in Computer Science and Mathematics. I earned my MBA from Indiana University.
I have worked the past 24 years at Lincoln Financial Group - the first 14 years as a Lincoln employee, and the last 10 years with IBM. I am currently a Senior Project Manager for IBM. In my role as a Project Manager, I manage Information Technology application development and systems integration projects through the entire life cycle, starting with project initiation through closing. I have also served as the lead person for IBM's process and procedure improvements at the Lincoln account. I managed a project that resulted in the IBM Lincoln account achieving our SEI/CMM Level 3 rating. In March 2007, I achieved the designation of IBM Certified Senior Project Manager.
I have 2 children, Bryan and Jana. Bryan is a mechanical engineer in Bremen, IN, and he has blessed me with 2 grandchildren. Daughter Jana just graduated from Ball State University in May 2007, and she is working for First Source Bank in South Bend, IN.
When I am not working, I enjoy taking a fitness class, taking walks, traveling, and spoiling my grandkids. I am also involved in various church activities, which includes serving as the Chairman of the Finance Committee. Since I just got engaged to a wonderful man, Chuck, the day after Thanksgiving, I will be busy using my project management skills to plan our August wedding!
I welcome any feedback that you may have regarding PMI-NEIC chapter communications.
